Organic Essential Oil Aromatherapy

‘Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile plant materials, known as essential oils, and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of altering a person’s mind, mood, cognitive function or health.’

Why do I use organic essential oils you ask?  Well, as a Licensed Esthetician, I’ve used essential oils for their healing properties for years.  I wanted to create a line of candles that would smell wonderful, but also be therapeutic to the consumer.  I also find that a lot of people (including myself) are highly sensitive to synthetic fragrances, where as essential oils, (the essence of live flowers, plants and herbs) are extremely unlikely to irritate even the most sensitive people.  I chose to make my candles with organic essential oils because I believe in limiting the amount of pesticides, herbicides and other toxic chemicals in our lives as much as possible.  I read a disturbing study not long ago that indicates that when babies are born, on average, they already have traces of over 200 toxic chemicals within their blood.  Francis Ellis’ Organic Essential Oil line of candles contains absolutely NO toxic chemicals at all… so you and your family can feel safe when you burn them.

Please enjoy the following information on your candle’s essential oil:

Lavender: (Lavandula angustifolia) Lavender oil is known for its skin healing properties and its use as a sedative. It is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, an antidepressant and an insecticide.  Lavender oil is good for acne, athlete’s foot, burns, colic, dandruff, eczema, headaches, insect bites, nausea, psoriasis, rashes, sore muscles, sunburn, teething and rheumatism.  *Note: Unless a product is made with Lavandula angustifolia essential oil, it is most likely made with either lavender ‘fragrance’ or the oil of another lavender species, which can actually have a stimulating effect instead of a calming result.

Geranium: (Pelargonium graveolens) Throughout history geranium has been known as a powerful wound healer. Geranium essential oil has many of the same antibacterial properties as lavender, but can have either a calming or stimulating effect depending on a person’s body makeup.  It is a great insecticide and good for broken or inflamed capillaries, bruises, circulatory disorders, diabetes, diarrhea, fluid retention, hemorrhoids, herpes, lymphatic congestion, menopause, ringworm, shingles, sore throats, to stabilize emotions, tonsillitis and ulcers. The antidepressant and emotional stabilizing effects of this oil are perfect in the form of a candle.

Lemon Grass: (Cymbopogon flexuosus) The oil contains up to 85% citral, which makes it antimicrobial, a great bug repellent (citral is anti-pheromonal to insects,)  and an even better smoke neutralizer.  Lemon grass essential oil is antifungal, full of antioxidants, anti-parasitic, antiviral, astringent, bactericidal, fungicidal.  It is great for cellulite, excessive sweat, fevers, muscular pain, nervous exhaustion, poor circulation, scabies and stress.

Cinnamon: (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) Not only is cinnamon one of the most recognizable scents in the world, it contains many of the same antiseptic qualities as the previous oils.  Cinnamon essential oil is antispasmodic and is beneficial for colds, coughs, diarrhea, flatulence, infection, slow circulation, sore muscles, stomach cramps, stress and toothaches. Cinnamon essential oil candles are great for disinfecting the air.

Peppermint: (Mentha piperita) Peppermint essential oil is known for its soothing qualities on the digestive system. It is also anti-germicidal, an expectorant and sedative.  It is helpful when dealing with asthma, bronchitis, cholera, dermatitis, exhaustion, fainting, fever, the flu, irritated colon, halitosis, kidney stones and gallstones, mental fatigue, motion sickness, mouth or gum infections, nausea, nerve pain, nervous disorders, palpitations, respiratory disorders, sinusitis, vertigo and vomiting. Peppermint essential oil candles may help with many of the previous ailments by just breathing in the aroma.

Eucalyptus: (Eucalyptus globules) Eucalyptus is one of the oldest native medicines.  Also antiviral and antiseptic, it is anti-neuralgic, anti-rheumatic, antispasmodic, and a decongestant.  Eucalyptus essential oil is helpful when dealing with blisters, bronchitis, Candida, chills, fever, headache, influenza, lack of concentration, measles, respiratory infection, rheumatism, sinusitis, skin infections and sore throats.  Eucalyptus essential oil candles disinfect and cleanse the air.
